A lighting system for APL (Aiming Point Lighting) must be provided at heliports operating at night where an "Aiming Point Marking" area is defined. Such lights provide a visual guidance to helicopter pilots about the preferred approach/departure direction.
APL lighting devices emit a white steady burning omnidirectional light, and are placed within the Aiming Point Marking zone.
