Eni S.p.A., originally an acronym for Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi, is a multinational company created by the Italian State as a public body in 1953, converted into a joint-stock company in 1992.

Present in 73 countries with about 33,000 employees in 2016, Eni is active in the oil, natural gas, chemical and green chemistry sectors, the production and marketing of electricity and renewable energy.

In 2018 it is the eighth world oil group by turnover; the Fortune 500 ranking includes Eni among the top 150 companies in the world by turnover.

The company is listed both in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and in the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange.
